Massif du Retezat is part of the Tentative list of Romania in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.

The Retezat Massif is part of the Southern Carpathians, with the highest peak at 2,509 metres. It has 58 glacial lakes, including the largest glacial lake in Romania. Its rich flora was the main reason for declaring it a national park.
